About
Equus Journeys is a French-founded operator with a genuinely global reach and a strong reputation among serious equestrian travellers. Their portfolio is particularly impressive in regions that other operators overlook — Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Kazakhstan), West Africa, and the Middle East.
They have a useful welfare rating system for each trip, giving transparent scores for horse condition, accommodation quality, and guide experience. This commitment to transparency is rare in the industry and much appreciated.
Their trips tend toward the adventurous and remote — this is not an operator for riders who want pampering. But for those seeking genuine riding experiences in remarkable places, Equus Journeys is among the best.
Who is this for?
Good for
- Serious, adventurous riders comfortable in remote and challenging terrain
- Those wanting Central Asia, West Africa, or off-the-beaten-track destinations
- Riders who appreciate transparent welfare ratings for each trip
- Those happy with basic, authentic accommodation (yurts, guesthouses)
Not ideal for
- Riders who need or want comfortable, hotel-quality accommodation
- Beginners or nervous riders — these trips are genuinely demanding
- Anyone wanting a relaxed, leisurely holiday pace

Ten days in the Tian Shan mountains on tough, spirited Kyrgyz horses — one of the most demanding and rewarding riding experiences of my life. Equus Journeys selected exceptional local guides who knew every mountain pass. Accommodation was basic (yurts) but authentic. The horse welfare was genuinely impressive given how remote we were. An operator I trust completely.
